Fans Meet Brian Forster and Rick Segall

Brian Forster and Rick Segall -- Now, and Then

This past weekend, fans had the opportunity of meeting Brian Forster and Rick Segall at the Hollywood Collector's Show in Burbank, CA. Brian and Rick spent the weekend signing autographs and meeting their fans. Good friend (and Partridge Family fan) Geri Jewell ("The Facts of Life," "Deadwood") stopped by to say hello! An illness kept Suzanne Crough from attending -- but if you ordered autographs through the website, they are being handled through the mail and will arrive very soon.

Among the other celebrity guests were: Sally Struthers, Pat Carroll, Edie Adams, Gogi Grant, Adam West, Burt Ward, Julie Newmar, Paul "Pee Wee Herman" Reubens, Connie Stevens, Ben Murphy and Roger Davis ("Alias Smith and Jones"), Kristy McNichol, David L. Lander, Katey Sagal, David Faustino, Mariette Hartley and many others.

The Partridge Family Toy Box

Each week we feature a different Partridge Family/David Cassidy collectible!
This week, it's The Partridge Family Trading Cards!

In 1971, TOPPS Trading cards released the first of three different series of trading cards. The 55-card set featured yellow borders and images from the first season's episodes on the front. When assembled, the card backs created puzzles, while others had song lyrics from their first LP, "The Partridge Family Album." Also manufactured in Canada by O-Pee-Chee, in Australia by Scanlens and a slightly smaller size in England by AB & C.

Photo Of The Week

This image was taken by photographer Henry Diltz during the photo shoot for "Cherish," David Cassidy's first solo LP for Bell Records. Henry Diltz is a renowned music photographer whose work has been featured on thousands of albums and magazine covers over the years. Among the nearly one million photos he's shot over the last 35 years are famous images of Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Paul McCartney, Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, CSN&Y, Linda Ronstadt, and many more. In addition, Henry was David's official photographer during the run of the show, and was on-set almost daily.

Still an active photographer, Henry has more than 200 LP sleeves to his credit, including such famed album covers as The Doors' Morrison Hotel, James Taylor's Sweet Baby James, and Crosby, Stills & Nash's debut.

Video Clip Of The Week

Future Academy-Award winner Jodie Foster guest starred in the third season episode, "The Eleven-Year Itch" as a young girl who develops a crush on Danny. The featured song was "Walking In The Rain" from The Partridge Family Notebook LP. This scene was actually filmed right across the street from the Partridge's house façade on the Columbia Ranch in 1972. Notice how different the background vocals are from what was released on the LP.

Did You Know?

The original pilot for The Partridge Family was shot in December, 1969 on the Columbia Ranch in Burbank California. In the original version, which runs approximately 35 minutes, the family lived in Ohio, Shirley was named Connie Partridge, she dated a man played by Jack Cassidy, and the musical sequences were longer. In addition, they used the home and driveway from the "I Dream of Jeannie" façade (which was still in production) rather than the home used later on. Then the completed pilot, incorporating various changes, had to pass an audience research test before it could be approved by the network and given the green-light to go to series. ABC then scheduled the show opposite Andy Griffith's new CBS series, "The Headmaster" on Friday nights -- turning the Partridges into sitting ducks (or so they thought). Little did they know the producers had a secret weapon: a young actor named David Cassidy and a song called "I Think I Love You!" The rest is TV history.

Shirley Jones and the SAG Awards

Shirley Jones and Marty Ingels at the SAG Awards
OK, so Shirley didn't win the SAG Award. Helen Mirren stole -- er -- won it for her role in "Elizabeth I."

But, Shirley didn't toil in a commercial or tiny part to earn her Screen Actors Guild card.

She became a union member with her first role starring in the 1953 musical "Oklahoma!" Jones later earned an Oscar for "Elmer Gantry" and starred in "The Music Man" with a young Ron Howard.

But it took her 53 years to earn her first SAG award nomination for the Hallmark Channel movie "Hidden Places."

"I'm really excited," she said. "You are in a business that you love and then you find out that there are lots of people in the business that love you. What more could you ask for?"

David Cassidy Joins MySpace.com

According to davidcassidy.com, David has just signed up with a MySpace profile! MySpace is a tricky place -- anybody can create a profile and claim to be a celebrity. It's becoming a problem and difficult for real celebrities to get fake profiles deleted from the MySpace site. But fortunately, this profile is legit! To stop by and check it out, sign up, or request to be added to David's "friends list," click here!

The Partridge Family Toy Box

This week, it's The Partridge Family/David Cassidy Picture Frame Pendant AM Radio!

Manufa
ctured by Philgee International Ltd. in 1973, the 3 1/2" diameter cover is removable so you can insert your own photo in place of David's picture (although we doubt that ever happened!!). The radio comes complete with a 29 inch chain to be worn around the neck. According to the Collector's Guide to TV Toys and Memorabilia 1960s - 1970s by Bill Morgan and Greg Davis, this item can fetch upwards of $250.00 - $350.00! (And it's not even satellite radio!!)

Photo Of The Week

David is holding a custom-made Gibson SG electric guitar with chrome tuning heads, 22 fret fingerboard with mother of pearl inlays, 2 pickups, 4 rotary controls, Bigsby bridge, featuring a heavily-carved body and customized pickguard, together with a hard shell case. (I have NO IDEA what I just said!!) It was originally custom created for guitarist Louis Shelton, who sold it to David in 1970. David subsequently used this guitar while on tour in the 70s. Photos of David with the guitar are also featured on the covers of several magazines and books throughout David's career, including "Meet David Cassidy." David sold this guitar when his memorabilia went on the auction block in December, 2006.

Last time, we held a caption contest for this photo:

The winner was Randy64 who sent along this caption: "What? I am pointing you in the direction of Albuquerque!"
Runner up: Daydreamer72 with "Portrait of an artist as a young man."

Video Clip Of The Week

In 1993, David Cassidy and his brother Shaun joined the Broadway musical, "Blood Brothers." Written by the legendary Willy Russell, "Blood Brothers" tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with tragic consequences. Hailed as one of the best musicals of all time – scooping up no less than four awards for best musical in London and seven Tony Award nominations on Broadway – Blood Brothers is currently booking into its 20th year in London. Here's a clip of David and Shaun when they appeared on "Live With Regis and Kathy Lee."

Incidentally, David's son Beau Cassidy played the exact same role of Mickey as his father in 2006 at Stagedoor Manor in Loch Sheldrake, New York.

Did You Know?

In 1978, Suzanne Crough starred in the Academy-Award winning documentary short, "Teenage Father," directed by Taylor Hackford ("An Officer and a Gentleman," "Against All Odds," "Delores Claiborne," "Ray.") In order to not be recognized as Tracy Partridge, they sprayed her hair brown. According to Suzanne, while accepting his Academy Award, "Taylor Hackford exclaimed, 'Thank you to Suzanne Crough for the wonderful acting.' That was worth the dye and paint!"
