East Of Eden is one of my favorite movies!! Definitely my favorite of the three films James Dean made. I saw Jaws for the first time a few years ago! I was probably the last person on earth who'd never seen it. I'd always seen bits of it on TV but had never seen it all the way through (great movie too!). I've never read Charlie And The Chocolate Factory but love the 1971 movie. I think the new version looks good and definitely want to see it. I do think Johnny Depp looks really creepy, but I really like him so it should be interesting. As for Tim Burton's movies, I love Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Ed Wood. I used to like Pee Wee's Big Adventure but haven't seen it in years and not sure I'd like it now. I liked Big Fish too!

Kelley, I like all kinds of movies. I'm actually a very easy viewer to please. So, if I hate a movie, it's rare for me and usually means the movie is an all-out stink bomb. I mean, I sat through "Xanadu" and thought it was fun (when I first saw it anyway). Laughing Laughing That being said, I REFUSE to spend any time or money on movies spit out by talent-challenged actors such as Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson, Hilary Duff, etc. etc. etc. etc. The list goes on and on! Laughing

I went to see "Wedding Crashers" yesterday and thought it was VERY funny. I wasn't expecting to be entertained as much as I was. Very Happy

I just went to see it-I enjoyed it. That kid who played Charlie was adoreable. Johnny was amazing-so versitile. I can see Disney or Universal coming out with all sorts of Charlie-related roller coaster rides! (Warning: this movie is definitely for those on low-carb diets! Shame on you

I saw "Charlie" today at the theatre, and I thought it was very good....it is different from the "Willy Wonka" original, but Johnny Depp did not remind me of Michael Jackson as mentioned in some reviews (sometimes, I think people really look for these comparisons!!), and I thought it updated quite nicely!!!!

But don't listen to me--I adore Johnny Depp, and would watch him doing *anything*!!!! Laughing

So if you never read the books or saw the original movie, is it worth seeing? With nothing to compare it to, and no knowledge of the plot, does it stand on it's own? :)

BTW: Have you seen Johnny Depp in recent interviews for the film? He's now sporting a slight British accent -- no doubt from living overseas. Unlike Madonna's annoying/fake/forced/give-me-a-break accent, his sounds kinda neat/natural. Very Happy

Just saw Charlie And The Chocolate Factory tonight and loved it! I thought it was really funny, and I think I liked it at least as much as the original. I thought Johnny Depp was hysterical! He's truly a unique actor. His Willy Wonka is certainly strange, but I found him oddly endearing. Scott, it wouldn't matter if you've never seen the original movie or read the book. There's nothing special you need to know when seeing the movie. I've seen the original many times but have never read the book, although I think I will read it now. LisaF63, I can't believe there's actually someone who's never seen The Wizard Of Oz!! Now that I think about it though, I remember working with someone a few years ago who was still in high school, and she had seen the movie but it had absolutely no special meaning to her. She didn't watch it every year growing up or anything like that. It was just a movie she'd seen once or twice!
