He gives me the creeps too. But, I've never read the book or seen the original movie, so I'm not itching to see the film. There's something about Tim Burton's movies that makes me take a Silkwood shower after seeing them. I dunno. Maybe it's just me. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Wow. Scott, you are the only person I know who hasn't seen Willy Wonka. You must rent it. Oompa loompa oopmadee doo I have another puzzle for you....

I have never seen ET.

Lots of conflicting reviews about Depp's performance. Ebert didn't like it:

The SF Gate loved it.

I look forward to seeing it!

Whaaaaaa??? Shocked PJ, phone home! Wink

Scott, for a fun "non-scary" in a frightening way Tim Burton film, check out Beetlejuice! It's a hoot and colorful and has a great cast: Michael Keaton, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, Wynona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, and the late great Sylvia Sydney. Very Happy Worth a look! I'd recommend Edward Scissorhands (Johnny Depp) too but it's a bit darker, even ethereal in parts -- and Dianne Wiest is fantastic. Smile

Me and thee, Scott, as usual. LOL! Never seen the movie, never read the book, don't like Burton or Depp. This holds no interest for me.

My best friends son was in the play a few years ago, produced by a children's theater company in the town where I lived before moving to TX, and I did see that.

I fondly remember the original.
This new version gives me the creeps. Doubt if I'll even see it on DVD.
Johnny Depp can be a good actor when he wants to be (and when he stays away from Tim Burton). I haven't liked any of the movies they've done together. Just my opinion. Confused

As I stated in another thread, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" was my favorite book as a child and I read it several times. I was so fond of the book that the original movie paled in comparison to me. I haven't seen it in years, but as I recall the book was darker than the original movie. Gene Wilder did give a great performance though.

I recently rented "Ed Wood" which was another Johnny Depp/Tim Burton film. I thought it was very well done. Of course Ed Wood was a unique individual and filmaker so the subject matter was quite compelling. Martin Landau definitely deserved his Oscar for his role as the aged Bela Lugosi.

And if we are admitting that we've never seen certain movies in this thread then I'll admit that I've never seen any of the Star Wars films. I've tried to watch the original a few times but frankly I get bored with it pretty quickly and stop watching. I can hear all the groans from all you Star Wars fans!!! Laughing

I've gotta get me to a Blockbuster. Besides Willie Wonka, here's my list of "classic films" I've never ever seen (at least all the way through):

-- Gone With The Wind
-- Giant
-- The Godfather I, II and III
-- East of Eden
-- Streetcar Named Desire

The list goes on and on and on. Laughing
