Hi All,
Hope you're having a lovely end of 2010! My mother surprised me with a sealed copy of "Christmas Card" today! I'm afraid to open it! What do you think: should I keep it sealed and find myself an opened copy to play? Also, what's the difference between the LPs with the envelope held into the cover by the bottom corner vs. the LPs I've seen online with the envelope sitting opened and the card poking out the top?

PS. I'd post a photo but I'm not sure how...

I'd keep it sealed and find another. Those are easy to find.

The first pressings have no card on the cover, but a card tucked into the jacket. The second pressing has the card on the cover with nothing inside.

The first pressings DO have the card on the cover. It's inside of the red envelope that's tucked into the cover. What you were given is the original issue. Later pressings had the actual card printed as part of the cover rather than as an insert. Very Happy

That's pretty neat. Do you know why they changed the design after the original pressing? Is the first pressing worth more than the later pressings?

My guess is the original pressing still sealed is definitely worth more than the ones that are just printed. The re-issue with the card printed as part of the cover was changed, I assume, for budgetary reasons. It's cheaper than printing an extra piece that has to be inserted somehow during production.

When I bought the "Christmas Card" album back in late 1975 for 99 cents, it had the red card with the autograph picture. It was the 1971 original NOT the 1972 one.

Speaking of Christmas card, I bought the Razor & Tie CD back in the early 90's. Amazon has the CD from BMG Special Products. Is it worth the double dip, better liner notes, etc??
