I was afraid of this, b/c I think he's a good actor.........Hope he can recover!
http://www.cnn.com/2011/SHOWBIZ/celebrity.news.gossip/05/19/conaway.coma/

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Actor Jeff Conaway is "virtually comatose" eight days after he was found unconscious from an overdose of painkillers, his manager said Thursday.

"His last movement was Sunday," Phil Brock said. "He turned his head slightly, but they have no other functions now."

Conaway, 60, who was in the TV series "Taxi" and the movie "Grease" more than three decades ago, was rushed to an Encino, California, hospital on May 11. He apparently had been unconscious for eight or nine hours before he was found, Brock said.

"It is very serious," he said. "I cannot underestimate the seriousness of this."

Conaway's struggle with alcohol and drug addiction was chronicled in 2008 on the TV reality show "Celebrity Rehab."

"Aside from drugs, he's a really wonderful soul, a very kind and wonderful person," Brock said.

This is heartbreaking. I usually pass right by these things, but when I was channel surfing and saw Jeff on Celebrity Rehab, I took a look. It was so sad to see what he had become.

Looks like his manager jumped the gun and played doctor. It's not an overdose, according to another report I read from Dr. Drew. He's got pneumonia and sepsis and they have him in an induced coma to heal, using the same drug -- Propofol that killed Michael Jackson.

He was at an autograph show a few months ago and was a total mess, even screaming at a fellow celebrity attendee as he walked up and down the aisles, hunched over with a cane. It was quite a sight.

I just have to add that Jeff was in one of my favorite Disney movies "Pete's Dragon", it was in 1977. Wasn't a big part but there he was, I hope he'll have a speedy recovery!

So sad. This piece of work of an ex-girlfriend should let him rest in piece.

'Taxi' Star Losing Fight for Life; Family and Ex Battle Over Turning Off Life Support

Jeff Conaway's family has made the decision to turn off the ailing actor's life support machine, reports RadarOnline.com. But the former “Taxi” star’s ex-girlfriend reportedly has stepped into the fray and prevented the family from turning off his ventilator.

Conaway's doctors advised the family that he is losing his fight for life and hasn't had brain activity since he was admitted to the hospital, the story notes. The family had planned to turn off his ventilator Thursday afternoon, while his feeding tube had already been removed, the piece says.

However, Conaway’s ex, Vikki Lizzi, apparently has power of attorney, according to a living trust from 2007, and insisted that the hospital halt efforts to remove life support, the Daily Mail reported. The hospital was reviewing the information before making a decision.

Conaway, 60, a star of the classic TV series "Taxi" and the movie "Grease," was hospitalized May 11 for what was suspected to be a prescription drug overdose, the RadarOnline piece notes.

How sad. Condolences to his family.

I was a great fan of Taxi and of Grease and I loved his roles in both. He was very attractive and I always wondered why he never had a higher profile career with his looks and a decent talent for acting.

Same thing happened to me. I don't watch that show, except for an episode I saw with Jeff in it (also found via channel surfing). It was startling and SO sad. Sad

Rest in Peace, Jeff.

How ironic that Jeff's best role (Bobby in Taxi) paralleled his real life. In Taxi he was constantly struggling for that great part that would never come. After he quit Taxi (middle of the fourth season), his career never quite recovered. That great part that would make him the center of attention never materialized.
