I thought they only speeded the early tracks up? These sounded more like him but then what do I know! What did you think? |

I'm hearing a faint difference. It would be cool for someone to go back and change the pitch of D.C.'s voice to its original on the first two albums. But I'm sure there would be endless red tape involved. |

And if they could restore Cassidy's vocals for those 1st 2 albums to their original pitch....what about if they have enough recorded vocals from Shirley Jones, to drop those in as well. How's THAT for red tape? |

As far as that goes: on the first album it seems the vocals are overall lower, with several male voices lower than David's. Listeners must have wondered, with a mother, two younger sisters, and two brothers whose voices have not changed, who were the sources of those voices? On subsequent albums the backup voices seem much higher, although the same men did the singing. Did they sing higher, or were their vocals speeded up? |

It depends on the song. Some were sweetened, some were not, but it was a common technique used back then. Even Shaun Cassidy's vocals were recorded and then sped up. Whatever made the song sound best is what they did. They did not necessarily consider, while producing each song, what the make-up of the group was, other than it being a family. They were concerned with producing the best song possible. |

I was always content assuming Danny was the lower voice in the group, just as I did with Jughead in The Archies. I used Jim Nabors as an example of someone who could go from, "Sha-ZA-yam!", to, "Noooobody knows the trouble I've seeeeeen"!
I try not to overthink things. |

Well, that Laurie could have pretty sultry tones. Also, her little keyboard packed one heck of a synthesizer to supply all the horns, etc., no one in the group played. |
