You have to give him a lot of credit for the way he that he was an innovator in the music business. It's just real sad to see him pass away.

I found this article on The Examiner by Steve Marinucci, he reports the death and also includes statements made by former Monkees, Micky Dolenz, and a very curious one from Michael Nesmith:

I like what Mike wrote. It was honest. In the end, he respected Kirshner, but they had their differences in the vision for and control of the Monkees. Kirshner was a big part of my musical life as a kid, from his involvement in the groups that I loved and watching his show every weekend. I'm sorry to hear of his passing, but he certainly left a great legacy.
