MTV has a new reality series called The 70s House. Described as:

Quote:
We take 12 modern kids and force them to live as though it were the 1970s. No cell phones, no iPods, no Britney! Only rotary phones, 8 tracks and Farrah. Will they be able to survive the groovy life? Find out in The 70s House.

I can't stand MTV, but I might check this out at least once...it would personally amuse me to see my niece deal with a cell phone-less world, a world that requires forward planning and doesn't have 24/7 instant gratification. We had a little chat recently that went like this (in the course of my being drafted to help her research and write a major paper):

ME: When I was in college, we would leave the house in the morning, see people around campus, and check our telephone messages at night. Assuming, of course, that your roommates bothered to write the messages down. We didn't have an answering machine, and there was no such thing as voice mail. You couldn't be reached during the day unless someone knew where to find you on campus. All of this meant that it was easier for us to make going to class and doing homework the actual point of going to college. Amazingly, we still had very active social lives and had fun despite the fact that we were not accessible every minute of every day to all of our friends.

HER: Wow. That sucks. Glad I don't have to live like that (at which point she answered phone call number 345 of the afternoon).

LOL

It might be interesting to see how these kids react to music that has an actual melody. Smile

The house itself is hilarious--its decoration is spot-on. You can take a tour at:

That loud, annoying "KA-CHUNK!" right in the middle of a song as the tape switched from one track the next used to drive me crazy!

Kelley, that was directed at Lisa AKA "Itz." Very Happy
Sorry if you thought I was poking fun at you -- not my intent. Cool

I too laughed at the comment that girl made about the 8 track tape!!

I thouht this show was quite funny but like so much these days, just made me feel so old!! Laughing

We laugh at these young people saying they can't live without their cell phones and ipods etc. But it's probably the way my parents felt when I said that I couldn't live without TV when I was a child, as course there was no TV until they were young adults.
