God, how I detest Ray Bolger. I found him barely tolerable in the first season episode, but this one takes me right back to downright dislike! Corny, hammy, distracting. This is probably my least favorite episode because of him.

Actually, I never liked any of the grandparent episodes (Jackie Coogan didn't help any in season four). I found them boring and repetitive and I never saw the point in grandparents behaving in such an immature fashion. I found no comedy in that. If Fred Renfrew were my grandfather I would have slipped some rat poison into his Metamucil before he could invade my home again. (They never did plan a visit, did they? They always showed up unannounced. That would never have flown in my house! We wouldn't have answered the door and would have hidden in the basement until they went away. Hee hee!)

Anyway, that was a harrowing experience. I guess I now have a little more insight into why I never saw The Wizard of Oz.

I have to agree the Grandparents episodes don't hold help well.

They are repetitive. At least they skpped doing it in the third season.
However, I do like Ray Bolger and that is the only reason I can sit through these two.. That and the novelty of Shirley singing a lead song.
They played a lot of music in this episode. which I liked.

Together ( Havin a Ball) is one of my favorites as is "I'm on my way back home"

Ray Bolger fans who get GSN might want to set their VCRs for 3:30am (eastern). He and Eve Arden are the guests on an August 1967 week of Password episodes. Two episodes have already aired, so there are three left to air in the wee hours of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Smile

Actually there is one episode per season with the Grandparents, including the third season:

No. 3 "Whatever Happened to the Old Songs?"
No. 35 "The Forty Year Itch"
No. 56 "The Mod Father"
No. 86 "Maid in San Pueblo"
