I have this instinctual feeling that most of you are going to say the Partridge family! But i thaught for fun i would ask what the first single you ever bought was.

Because in a young un' i would probably have to say take that or the spice girls (or anything from britpop era i guess!)

grooviness always

My older brother bought all the PF records. So, I listened to his. The first single I ever bought was The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia. I was a big Carol Burnett fan and when I heard Vicki Lawrence sing that song on her show I had to have it. Very Happy

Mine has to either be the Spice Girls or N*Sync. Something like that.
I was about 5 when the spice girls were big. Luved them. Now I am obsessed w/ Shilrey Jones and the PF.
Lizzie

P.S.- This ties in with Lennon/McCartney/Partridge the Round Robin story. Shirley goes goggly eye over John lennon. HILARIOUS! YOU MUST READ! ADD MORE ASAP!

Mine was also the Spice Girls. I was about 7 or 8 when they were big and I was just as obssessed as any other girl my age! Now Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae are my favourite singers- I wish I'd been young when they were at their height of popularity.

Oh, I wish I lived in the 50's so I could be madly in love w/ Gordan or sumthin. And all the guys would have major crushes on Shirley. Man, if you would say who is your favorite artist now I would TOTALLY say Shirley Jones. No doubt about it.

My first single was "I'll be around", by The Spinners. Great pop hooks on that one. My first album was a gift from my Mom: The PF Family Album. Still have it, of course! Very Happy

I'm shocked I can't remember exactly which was my first 45! I would have to go with either Johnny Cash's "Boy named Sue" or Tom Jones's "Daughter of Darkness". Like others, my sister gave me "I think I love you" and "Doesn't somebody want to be wanted" singles and the frist 2 PF albums. The first album I bought on my own was "Sound Magazine".
I should really know this stuff alot better! I'm gonna have to start writing out my entire life before I start forgetting important stuff like this!

My first 45 single was "Hair" by the Cowsills. I never bought any of their albums. I bought all The Partridge Family albums, but I never bought any of the singles.

I always enjoyed buying singles. One of my favorite alltime singles is David's "Cherish" for its 'hit'and B side.

I thought the B side was an odd choice. and proves record company execs do have a sense of humour. Combined, the single provided a mixed message. In "Cherish" David sings:

"Oh I could say I need you
But then you'd realize that I want you
Like a thousand other guys
who'd say the love you with all the rest of their lives
when all they wanted was to touch your face your hands and gaze into your eyes"

Then on the B side, David sings "All I wanna do is touch You"
Well I've always thought it was funny!

My first single was Olivia Newton-John's "Have you never been mellow". The first album I ever bought was The Partridge Family Album (which someone stole the picture that came with the album) Mad
