|
|
I've done this for other bands on some other boards, and it always works out pretty well.
The game goes like this - for each P-Fam album, you rate each song out of five (5). The scoring is as follows.
5/5-Amazing
4/5-Great
3/5-OK
2/5-Don't Like It
1/5-Horrid
0/5-this rating is reserved for rap music only :-)
So you rate each song on a given album. Then, you total up your scores. After you determine your total, you then divide by fifty-five (55), which is the maximum number of points on any given P-Fam album (11 songs times a max of 5 points). Then you will have your album score. You can match your album score with other people's scores and also it is fun to see how much some albums get compared to others.
So, the first album, naturally, is....
THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY ALBUM
Here are my ratings:
"Brand New Me" 4/5
"Point Me in the Direction of Albuquerque" 5/5
"Bandala" 4/5
"I Really Want to Know You" (Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil) 2/5
"Only a Moment Ago" 4/5
"I Can Feel Your Heartbeat" 5/5
"I'm on the Road" 3/5
"To Be Lovers" 3/5
"Somebody Wants To Love You" 4/5
"I Think I Love You" 5/5
"Singing My Song" 3/5
So, for me, the first album gets a 42 out of 55, or an 76 percent. What's your rating? |

Alright, I'll play too.
Brand New Me- 5/5
Point Me In The Direction Of Albuquerque- 4/5
Bandala- 5/5
I Really Want To Know You- 3/5
Only A Moment Ago- 5/5
I Can Feel Your Heartbeat- 2/5
On The Road- 5/5
To Be Lovers- 4/5
Somebody Wants To Love You- 4/5
I Think I Love You- 5/5
Singing My Song- 3/5
45 out of 55- 82 percent.
I don't know what the big deal is about I Can Feel Your Heartbeat. I think it's a very mediocre song, to me it sounds like filler that serves as rounding out the first side of the album. But overall, the album is a very strong debut. After the Sound Magazine LP, things quickly went downhill. |

I'm a sucker for these PF albums, I like them all, including this one, although it is not my favourite of all.
Brand New Me 5/5
Point me ....... 4/5
Bandala 4/5
I really want .. 3/5 (missing those DC vocals)
Only a moment 4/5
I can feel ..... 5/5
On the road 3/5
To be lovers 2/5
Somebody .... 4/5
I think I ..... 5/5
Singing my ... 4/5
They should have had David sing on the three where his vocals are sorely missed. These songs need a lead voice.
So my total is 43/55 or 78%
I wonder if we'll get as far as Bulletin Board. It's not regarded as the best but it is actually my favourite album of the lot, very funky and upbeat! Great DC vocals too. |

I guess this one ranked higher with me since this was the first album we had at home and DC is lead on all the songs. More consistent sound I guess. _________________ Kathy in St. Louis |
