|
|
I know there are few Trek fans on this list, so I just wanted to tell you that this one is worth seeing. I was fortunate enough to have a friend who got our group preview tickets last week. Don't let the trailers fool you. They did this one right and did not alienate us longtime fans. The trailers are right about one thing though. The folks who are not fans will become fans after they see this one. They will get it.
Anyway, go see it on the 8th of May. You won't regret it, and we can talk more details then. _________________ Kathy in St. Louis |

I'm looking forward to seeing this also - with a little bit of dread. I don't want to see them destroy the characters. Thanks Kathy for putting a positive spin on it. And in the words of that 'other' captain, 'engage & make it so'!

This weekend was th opening of Wolverine.
I bet Jennifer is excited.
I also heard that there are preview showings in Philadelphia this weekend. Danny was giving out tickets on his Friday show.
( I listen to it by Podcast at work)
Ed, I'm glad you are now interested. Don't believe the trailers they don't do the movie justice. Only the online trailer showed Leonard Nimoy.
All of my Trekker friends were pleased with it. _________________ Kathy in St. Louis |

I took myself to see this yesterday. Wow! What a fun film. I have never been a Trekkie, Trekker, Trekite, Trekster, Treklodite -- whatever. Doesn't matter. Go see the film. It was amazing. Chris Pine was wonderful, and really captured Kirk without doing an impression of Shatner, (although there were times I think he delivered lines with a "wink and a nod" to how Shatner speaks). Same with Zachary Quinto as Spock. Very well done.
Quick question though -- and if you haven't seen the film, DON'T read any further.
Am I right in assuming that Nero's time travel permanently altered the Star Trek universe as we know it? That, had this not happened, Kirk would have known his father, and events that have happened within the many series and films will not happen as well? If so, what a BRILLIANT way to get out of having to follow the time-line already in place.
Also curious as to how old Spock and young Spock could share the same space. But maybe that was explained when I went to pee. Damned extra large Diet Cokes! |

Highlight the text below if you'd like to read the response. But don't do that if you haven't seen the film.
That's how I took it. Brilliant, eh? Gives them the opportunity to be different (but similar) people and take on a whole new chapter of adventures without having to revisit old ones. No more Trouble with Tribbles? Spock had traveled back through time in his own ship via a black hole, so he was visiting from the future. Just like Marty did in Back to the Future when he sent himself back to the future a few minutes early. I guess you can do anything you want with time travel since it is fantasy anyway. |

Fantasy? I thought this was a true story?
See? That's why I always liked "Lost In Space" better. MUCH more believable! |

the new timeline does mean that things don't have to happen the way they did before. So the film makers can pick and choose what they want to say happened and what didn't. No big reset button this time.
Since Old Spock is going to be on the new Vulcan colony we won't have to see him again and I expect we won't.
Lost in Space more believable with the Great Vegetabel Rebellion? please...
Don't worry I still like it and Bill Mumy is a great guy _________________ Kathy in St. Louis |
