I just don't get it. Didn't they learn their lessons with those two bad Flintstones fliums? Or those two bad Scooby Doo movies?? Of all the projects that would work in live action, they pick Yogi Bear over something that makes live-action-sense -- like "Jonny Quest?" I'll never understand Hollywood. Laughing

I still can't watch more than 5 minutes of those films. Brick wall
Gimme classic Scooby any day.

I dunno either. Maybe it's the age of the writers that's the impetus behind these "updates"/"remakes" in the sense that they tend to end up MOCKING the original shows (in an effort to be cynical/hip? Rolling Eyes ) as opposed to celebrating their unique, often tongue-in-cheek, humor -- which most of us at the time didn't "get", though our parents surely did (anybody else remember Rocky and Bullwinkle's "Fractured Fairy Tales?")! Wink That being said, I'm also not certain that the audience they're trying to target (I'm assuming we're talking the Jonas Brothers/Hannah Montana/ Miley Cyrus Generation?) even KNOW the characters represented as they already have their own cultural icons, don't they? Confused

It ultimately seems to me to be a case of Hollywood either barking up the wrong money tree, or spreading them(greedy)selves too thin!

Then again, this IS L.A., where you're never TOO RICH or TOO THIN -- which The Olsen Twins have proven time and again! Cool Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the link, Cheryl! Very Happy

So, we're talking "The Lynn Spears' Story" as opposed to "The Partridge Family"? Shocked Rolling Eyes Laughing

With the posts on these assorted remakes, I was dumbfounded when I went to the movies recently, and saw that they are updating "The Day the Earth Stood Still". Rolling Eyes

The original was classic!

(Oh, another thing I've noted is that they are not referred to as remakes anymore. They are 're-imaginings' or 'retellings'.)

I've been on the music group Klaatu's website and they are crying about the producers of the film not wanting to use any of their music in the new film.

I think if they chose the right cast and did it in the same frame of mind it was originally intended, it could do okay.....I think they should stick to the original format though, a family garage band that accidentlally makes it big could be a great concept again, maybe find people who could all really sing ( i am not sure if lip-sync could still work post Milli Vanilli) and maybe expanded the format to one hour and do it as a sitcom/drama kind of in the vein of 7th Heaven perhaps....sadly, good family serial drama/comedies are sadly lacking, maybe broaden the appeal to have something attracting kids and adults sans the sexuality....I think they would need strong leads for Shirley, Keith, Laurie, Danny and Rueben and someone with teeny bopper sex appeal like David.....but i think it would only work if the sex appeal was subtle not overtly sexual and obnoxious like the VH1 one was.....the Rueben character was a little too over the top....the neuroses was fine, the cursing....hmmmm....well....I could have lived without that ....i think if it went into the death and healing after the death of the father more and developed the characters properly, they could resurrect it.....
but it will NEVER be our original......EVER
