I just saw an ad that uses this bubblegum song, and it goes..."Let's take a walk in the park." It's not the PF but it sounds like Gilbert O'Sullivan, but I don't think it's him either. Retro-seventies songs seem to be in vogue these days.

I know I'm sure he felt silly saying "I think I'm waking up." Who really says that when they wake up. When I wake up I'm like "ughhh."

But it was a commercial, and that was the product's slogan/jingle/ad campaign at the time. Very Happy The whole idea behind Rice Krispies, and the "snap, crackle, pop" was that the noise of the rise popping when milk is added, wakes you up in the morning.

I watched the commercial which featured the whole PF several times before I realized the jingle names every family member but Laurie. Not even a close-up shot. I'm not even sure that is Susan Dey in the group shots. Is it? Why would they leave Laurie/Susan out? I know...Susan didn't eat breakfast or any other meal, right? But seriously, why might she have been excluded?

I recently read on another website that Susan didn't have a close up because she had a deal with Misty hair dryers.

Could be, but I don't think there would have been an exclusive on her services. Misty Hair Dryers and Kellogg's Rice Krispies weren't in competition with each other. Now, if it were Post Cereals and Kellogg's Cereals, that would be another story. :D

I wonder when the Misty Hair Dryer commercial were released? I thought they were pre-Partridge?

Whew! Well, I'm very glad to hear that!

I've seen the commercial and it was one of those old-fashioned hair dryers in which a plastic cap fit over the head, and a hose was attached, which blew the hot air into the hair cap, drying the hair, which was usually wrapped in curlers. It was quite bizarre looking.

EDIT: OMG -- I just found the commercial on YouTube. Check it out.

Scroll down the page and click on the words "Misty Hair Dryers."

I've just seen the blog for the first time. Terrific! Great photo of DC! But those Rice Krispies commercials...I don't recall ever seeing them! I don't know what to think. I'm kind of surprised DC would do them, given his feelings about that kind of thing. Do you think he got a chunk of change from that? My guess is it would take a lot of $ to convince him.

I have a feeling this fell under a "publicity" clause in their contracts. They may not have had a choice. I agree, though -- my feeling is that DC probably despised having to be involved. Especially the "Wake Up Like Me -- Wake Up With Kellogg's Rice Krispies." Laughing But Kellogg's must have been a MAJOR $ponsor of the series (and therefore paying their salaries), or they wouldn't have had the cast film their commercial, pay for the singers to record the jingle, etc. Plus, David Cassidy wasn't hawking the cereal, Keith Partridge was. They were all "in character." Very Happy

Oh, I thought it was David too. Especially on the commercial with the whole family it sounds like he sang the part "hear the roar, hear the roar, let 'em pour."

I thought the same thing! I remember bringing this up a few years ago.

They sure had DC's sound down pat. Smile
